We know that many of our Member organisations rely on volunteers for much of their day-to-day running and that many couldn't function without the hard work that their volunteers put in all year round.

If you are holding a party or other event to celebrate your volunteers, then we would love to hear about it and please feel free to send us your photos by email

Charity Commission urges trustees to be vigilant about ransomware attacks

In May, more than 200,000 organisations, including the National Health Service (NHS), in 150 countries were affected by ransomware attacks. The vulnerabilities exploited by the hackers are the same for charities as they are for individuals, public or private sector organisations.

The Charity Commission encourages all charities to follow protection advice recently issued by the City of London Police and National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), details of which can be found here

Consortium Team News

Paul - Chief Executive Officer

With under two weeks now until the snap General Election, we encourage all of our Members to be engaging with their local candidates across all parties to find out where they stand on protecting LGBT rights now and into the future.

With Brexit such an important factor, we need to ensure hard fought rights aren’t erased or washed out as the Great Repeal Bill and future legislation goes through its various stages. Find out what candidates think about these things.

Whatever the result, collectively we are a powerful sector and we look forward to supporting LGBT organisations in keeping those rights where they are!

Vicky - Membership & Engagement Manager

This month I have been focussing on getting our new research project funded by The Legal Education Foundation off the ground. We are very excited about this project and about how it will inform our work in the future!

We have also recruited our new Trans Organisation Network Worker - who will be starting in June, more news on this coming very soon!

Philip - Engagement & Information Officer

This month I have been working on background research for our new survey project funded by The Legal Education Foundation. I have been working with Vicky on the early stages of the survey, getting it ready for compiling and testing this month.

I have also been looking at new systems, which have the potential to allow us to grow our Membership even further, without effecting the level of service we are able to deliver to our existing Members.

Harri - Stakeholder Engagement Manager for the National LGB&T Partnership

We’re pleased to be able to announce that the National LGB&T Partnership have been successful in our bid to be part of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance, the programme which continues from the Strategic Partners Programme, which ended earlier this year, and which facilitates us working with other voluntary and community sector partners to inform and challenge the health system.

One of the core activities of the Alliance is two-way communication between the system and communities. Sign up to our newsletter here to make sure you hear about opportunities to get involved.

Jess - National LGBT Anti-Bullying Project Coordinator

The Anti-Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic Bullying Project is well underway, and we have started working directly with schools to improve their LGBT+ inclusivity and approaches to tackling bullying.

Our partners are working hard to produce resources and learning tools for teachers to make the national curriculum more diverse and representative.

If you know a school that would benefit from our support, please visit our website for information about our local partners or contact Jess by email.

Please join myself and Jenny West for drinks at the Walthamstow Village Window Gallery (47 Orford Road, London, E17 9NJ) to celebrate the opening of the exhibition of Francis West's wonderful engravings. An extraordinary draftsman, whether painting, drawing or, as here, engraving, Francis' work exudes an inimitable style of its own, full of wondrous people, mythical creatures and performing animals. The event is open to all, so please come along and feel free to bring your friends.

The Ruby Slippers

Bill Elms in association with Break A Leg Productions presents
A RED-HOT DATE FOR THE RUBY SLIPPERS

SELL-OUT NORTHERN LGBT+ COMEDY MAKES ITS LONDON DEBUT
_______________________________________________________________
It enjoyed standing ovations and rave reviews during its sell-out premiere run in the North West last year. And now The Ruby Slippers is on its way to London for a date at one of the hottest theatres in the West End.  The comedy drama about love, friendship and identity will get its debut at the award-winning Arts Theatre West End on Sun 2 July.
Slap on some lipstick, put on those high heels and get ready for a riotous rollercoaster of emotions at one of the two performances on the day, taking place at 4pm and 7.30pm.
Raz is on top of the world. He’s the owner of his own paradise drag club in Blackpool, The Ruby Slippers, and has met Ryan, the man of his dreams.  However, all is not as it seems. Business is poor, while a rival club – Nine Inches - has opened which threatens to not only steal Raz’s customers but also his star acts, Drag Queens Phoenix and Destiny. And then there is the secret Ryan hides that will change everything.
Are his business and relationship doomed? Or will the power of love win the day?
The comedy drama, created by Break A Leg Productions in association with Bill Elms(Epstein – The Man Who Made The Beatles, Twopence to Cross the Mersey), comes from the pen of writers Emma Culshaw and David Paul and is directed by Craig Ryder, who also stars as Destiny.
The talented cast also includes James Rogerson as Raz, Jamie Paul as Ryan, Debra Redcliffe(Helen), Emma Vaudrey (Laura), and Jordan Simms (Phoenix).
Writers Emma Culshaw and David Paul said: “The play tackles transgender issues and we hope audiences enjoy what we set out to achieve, creating a play full of compassion, humour and outrageous one-liners but with a strong underlying message.”
Co-producer Bill Elms added: “The Ruby Slippers has a great script, great comedy and most of all a great storyline.”
“I’ve been delighted to watch its growth, and now it’s getting the London debut it deserves – and in one of the most exciting spaces in the West End too. London audiences are in for a treat.”

What the critics said…
“A riotous night of entertainment for all… dynamic, accessible and unique theatre… extremely entertaining”
North West End

“It is always satisfying to see a show in its infancy – one that you know will become a nationwide hit”
Literally Reviews

“The action is slick, the delivery is polished, the lines are laugh-out-hilarious and the darker moments are constructed well”
Purple Revolver

The Ruby Slippers is a new show about love, identity and following your dreams, with a true northern warmth and a big gay heart”
Made-Up Liverpool

“An important piece of writing for the LGBT community”
