A warm welcome to the February edition of our Newsletter! Read on for news from the Sector, our Members and the Consortium Team. Sector News  Last Call for LGBT Groups Over the last 6 weeks we have been exploring LGBT Groups relationships with LGBT rights and the law through a survey and a series of round table deiscussions. The survey will be closing on Monday 5th Feburary so if you havent taken part on your groups behalf, now is the time to do it. All LGBT groups, no matter how big or small or whether they have staff or volunteers, are invited to take part in the survey which will help us to paint a picture of how LGBT groups engage (or don't engage) with the law and LGBT rights in their work - however informal it may be.  LGBT History Month 2018  LGBT History Month this year will be commemorating two sombre events; the 30th anniversary of the passing of Section 28, which prohibited local authorities from disseminating materials that ‘promoted homosexuality’ in schools; and the fortieth anniversary of the murder by shooting of Harvey Milk, the USA’s first out-gay elected councillor.  The History Month 2018 theme is ‘Geography: Mapping the World’. Put yourself on the Map!  LGBT History Month 2018 will focus on ‘Geography: Mapping the World’ which we thought fitted rather nicely with the mapping work we are carrying out in London. This mapping project, Always Out There is funded by City Bridge Trust and is being delivered in partnership with HERO/GMFA. We aim to collate and create an interactive map of groups, support and services for LGBT people in London. We are keen to make sure this work doesn’t just happen in London, so we are asking LGBT groups everywhere to put themselves on the map! So if your LGBT isnt already a Member of LGBT Consortium - join up here and be counted!  Changes to the teaching of Sex & Relationship Education and PSHE - consultation closes 13th February  The Department for Education is considering how to update the existing Sex and Relationship guidance which, was last updated in 2000, and is therefore now out of date. The updated guidance will support schools in delivering the new subjects of Relationships Education at primary and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) at secondary. There is a survey which asks for your views on a number of topics that will be considered in the update and we would encourage as many LGBT groups to give their views as possible. Click here to give your views Submissions Deadline Approaching for Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Women’s Health Week Community Resources  Are you a Lesbian, Bisexual or Trans Woman? The National LGB&T Partnership is creating a community resource featuring Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Women's experiences of accessing healthcare in the UK. They want healthcare professionals to hear about the good, the bad and everything in between! You can use whichever medium you’d like; video, writing, photos, art etc... so please feel free to get creative! Make your voices heard and help us to shape a fairer healthcare system for Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans Women. Health Check is Back for 2018  We will be continuing to release our monthly Health Check themed resources after LGBT History Month when we will be kicking off with a range of resources and Lesbian, bi and trans Women resources to coincide with LBT Women’s Week. News from our Members Being Proud Awards The annual Being Proud Awards are a chance to acknowledge and recognise the hard work and achievements of people making a positive difference to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people. Voting takes place in four categories: LGBT Young Person of the Year The Jan Bridget LGBT Youth Worker of the Year LGBT Youth Group of the Year The Jaye Bloomfield LGBT Ally of the Year Click here for more info and details of how to vote Speak up! about your health & social care services     Healthwatch Northumberland would really like to hear about your experiences of health and social care in Northumberland over the last year through their annual survey. This can be as a patient or carer. Knowing what is important to you will help them to work more effectively on your behalf. Your views will be shared anonymously and stored in line with data protection regulations. You could also be in with a chance of winning a £25 Marks & Spencer voucher when you take the time to share your experiences. Consortium Team News Paul - Chief Executive Officer Welcome to February and welcome to LGBT History Month. At a time when the diversity of our communities appears under attack, we are looking forward to using this month to highlight the magnificent work every Bisexual, Trans, LGBT BAME, Faith, Disability and beyond Member organisation undertakes on a daily basis. Without your hard work and dedication we would be in a far darker place so here’s to celebrating how we are a collectively powerful force, not just in February but throughout every day of the year. Thank you to all our Members for the dedication to supporting LGBT communities. Your Engagement Team  2018 has been a whirlwind so far and the Engagement team have covered a lot of Member miles between them! During 2018 the team plan to have more opportunities for you to get together with other Members, more resources and more training than ever before for our Members to take advantage of. We will be in touch with all of our Members over the next few months to allocate a dedicated Engagement Officer as your point of contact, so that it will be easier than ever for you to access all the benefits that Membership with Consortium has to offer. Our Trans Organisations Network (TON) is continuing its pilot of a secure online platform for TON Members to share and connect, which will be launched officially later this month. If you're a TON Member and you would like to put yourself forward to help with the testing process, then please contact Shaan with your details. Sophie - National LGBT Anti-Bullying Project Coordinator We are excited to be hosting a visit from this projects funder, The Government Equality Office, who will be coming along to see one of our delivery partners in action this month. Our partners are getting great feedback from the work they are deliving to teachers and school staff around preventing and tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying; ''A warm yet professional tone was immediately established by the course leader which allowed insightful discussion to take place across both training sessions. I feel that me and my staff were fortunate to have taken part.'' ''The facilitator was excellent. Not too rigidly set to their own agenda and able to facilitate an open discussion around difficult issues that would have been difficult to manage without them.''
