Invitation to the Theatre

 Hello to the GBA/GPN,

 

Greetings from Park Theatre. I’m Daniel – producer here and I’d love to talk to you about a play we’re bringing to the stage this spring called ANIMAL. It’s a really unique play (I know all producers say that) that looks at disability and desire, identity and independence and we're looking for opportunities to invite special interest groups within the community to come and see the show, to hopefully tie in with LGBTQ+ or disability awareness work they might be doing. I thought, therefore, that this play could be of real interest to the GBA:

 

ANIMAL

David is gay, disabled and profoundly horny. He can’t eat, drink or shower by himself – let alone the rest. Totally inexperienced, he embarks on a sexual and romantic odyssey, armed with a fierce brain and impressive nudes (that he has to get someone else to take). But can David keep it casual whilst also relying on round-the-clock care? Can he manage the thrill and uncertainty of random hook-ups after a lifetime of knock-backs? Hilarious, challenging and heart-breaking, ANIMAL has already been wowing audiences in Manchester for the past month:

The production trailer can be seen here. The show runs from 19^th April until 20^th May (Mon-Sat at 7:30pm, Thurs & Sat at 3pm) at Park Theatre, London. It’s selling really well already and, after the press night, we anticipate it will be even harder to get tickets so we’re approaching special interest groups now so that you don’t miss out.

 

Tickets ranges between £15 - £44.50 - depending on matinee or evening, weekday or weekend. We can of course arrange discounts or create a unique promo code for special interest groups, as well as facilitate packages for larger groups with pizza and drinks before the show in a privae area of our newly refurbished bar and even the potential for Q&As with key creatives or cast members, so please do let us know if you’d be interested to find out more.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK

DASA funding for our members

 Good afternoon

I lead on London outreach activities for the Defence and Security Accelerator, DASA, the part of the Ministry of Defence that funds next generation technology to help keep the UK safer through innovation.

Presently, I'm looking at practical steps to help diversify the engineers and entrepreneurs that provide new capabilities and technologies to UK government.

Trade associations, the Institute of Directors, Local Enterprise Partnerships and the traditional Chambers of Commerce etc regularly make their members aware of DASA funding and opportunities to develop new markets in UK defence and security. In the past we have seen these organisations as good ways of spreading the message widely and equally that DASA is here with funding for innovation.

However, I'm now exploring more targeting messaging to communities we seek to attract and know are under-represented in terms of applying to DASA for funding, and therefore obtaining DASA funding. Which in turn continues to limit the ability to showcase those innovations and advance business development opportunities in UK government. 

I've attached some slides on the services, funding and business development we offer into UK defence & security. They are all free and for anyone to take advantage of. And I'd be very grateful if we could discuss any avenues you may have to reach your members so they can avail themselves of DASA innovation funding if it suits their development or business needs?

(I'm aware my slides state 'benevolent IP terms and conditions'. That is perhaps underselling it as we don't take any equity and the IP stays with the innovator for the innovations we fund them to develop.)

Tim Dee qualified as an accountant in 2003 and has worked in policy, finance transformation and entrepreneurial roles ever since. 

He now leads ACCA’s policy and research work across the UK, Europe, Eurasia, Middle East and Americas, with a particular focus on sustainability reporting. 

In 2022 he completed a social innovation fellowship with Year Here, co-designing support services for refugees at a housing association, and developing an ESG framework for a biotech fashion startup. 

Tim is passionate about social justice and equity, having survived sexual violence, homelessness and mental ill health, and occasionally speaks on these lived experiences. Tim is engaged to Wayne and lives in Windsor

Each has used their own personal design elements and style to create memorable architectural wonders. Many have applied their architecture skills to other artistic endeavors, such as painting and furniture design. Louis Sullivan, a gay American architect, is often referred to as the 'Father of Skyscrapers' and the 'Father of Modernism'. He represents the inauguration of a long line of LGBTQ architects. Many global architectural organizations include working groups of LGBTQ architects. For example, the American Institute of Architects sponsors an annual diversity conference focusing on the links between gender, sexuality, and cultural experience. This is an important step to establishing role models for the community within the profession, something which is currently lacking according to recent surveys. The British Architectural Journal recently completed a survey of the UK's LGBTQ architects. What is interesting is that this survey showed architects being comfortable with being out at the workplace but not so in relation to their clients and at the construction site. This presents quite a conundrum for practicing architects and reveals that much work on tolerance must still be done in the profession. As a result, a new support and social network for LGBTQ architects was launched in the UK in 2016 – Architecture LGBT+. The organization points out that no architectural firm ranks in the top LGBTQ employers list in the country. The epitome for an LGBTQ architect would be to design a building for specific use by the community itself. This includes community centres, homeless centres, medical facilities, and more. This raises the question as to whether being a gay architect influences the design process and output for the individual? Notable architects who publicly identify as LGBTQ hail from countries as diverse as Brazil, Canada, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Great Britain, Mexico, the United States, France, South Africa, Cypress, and Germany. In business, Perla Perdomo acted as General Manager of Travellers Liquors Ltd, where she oversaw the global expansion of the brand from 2006 to 2012. HISTORICAL LGBTQ SPOTLIGHT Karin Boye, Sweden (1900-1941) Karin Boye was a noted novelist, poet, and a prominent intellectual of her time.
