“Acting locally, thinking globally, and creating an inspirational neighbourhood powered by social enterprise”
Born out of a campaign, Coin Street Community Builders bought 13 acres of derelict South Bank riverside land in 1984 and has transformed it into a diverse, vibrant, and welcoming place for people to live, work and play. Now, our site is at the heart of a thriving neighbourhood with co-operative homes, parks and gardens, shops and design studios, galleries, restaurants, a family & children’s centre, sports pitches, and a range of community programmes and activities.
We earn income from a wide range of commercial activities including letting property, hiring out spaces, hosting conferences, and fees. We use that income to cross-subsidise housing and community programmes and managing and maintaining our extensive public realm. We are passionate about our wider Waterloo and North Southwark neighbourhood and, at the heart of our vision, are the best start for children & families; homes that support our community; health and wellbeing for everyone; enterprise, creativity & life-long learning; and high quality live, work & play spaces.
Our site has become one of London’s most visited places, and we are surrounded by iconic attractions such as The London Eye, Southbank Centre, National Theatre, Tate Modern and Borough Market. We have ambitious plans for the future and are looking for a special person to help us realise our dreams.
