Dear NLCCE Member,

We are delighted to welcome London Assembly Member, Cllr Alessandro Georgiou AM, as our guest speaker at our April networking event.  Alessandro will be speaking about the GLA's approach to business growth and the use of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in London. NLCCE Members have priority booking for this event - please click the link below to register.

Cllr Georgiou has served on Enfield Council since 2014. In 2022 he was elected Leader of the Opposition and Conservative Group.  During the 2024 Mayoral and GLA elections Alessandro was elected as a Londonwide Member of the London Assembly and serves on the Economy, Budget and Performance and Oversight Committees. His responsibilities for 2024 - 2025 include:

  • Deputy Chair of the Economy, Culture and Skills Committee
  • Member of the Budget and Performance Committee
  • Member of the GLA Oversight Committee

Alessandro has spent his political career fighting for lower taxes, opposing Green Belt development and is a champion against overdevelopment in London.

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is pleased to launch Phase Two of our fast paced Themed Competition, Innovation in Support of Operations. Run on behalf of the  Ministry of Defence, this competition aims to identify and accelerate innovative solutions and techniques, ensuring they can be scaled and deployed faster than our adversaries.

There are five new Challenge Areas: 

  • UAS Propulsion
  • Repair of 155mm Artillery barrels
  • Autonomous navigation systems for UAS and USVs
  • Seekers
  • UAS detect and destroy
The UK Government is continually assessing lessons from world events. From these lessons, we seek to rapidly adopt solutions that enhance our military and economic advantage. This competition is designed to identify nearly-ready solutions and techniques that can be accelerated into scalable and deliverable effect faster than our adversaries.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK programme, applications open

I am writing in reference to the fully funded Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK programme, which is accepting applications from SME leaders for Cohort 23, starting in September 2025.

The application deadline is Monday 28th April 2025.

We work with business networks and Growth Hubs around the UK and are keen to ensure the benefits of this 13-week programme are communicated to eligible small businesses from all regions, backgrounds and sectors. You can find up-to-date information about the course, and the application page, here: www.gs.com/10ksb-uk.

Please also feel free to refer any interested or suitable businesses directly to the recruitment team for more information at 10KSB.Recruitment@sbs.ox.ac.uk.

The eligibility criteria for businesses applying are that they must have:

·       operated for at least 3 years in the UK

·       between 5 and 50 employees

·       a turnover of £250K minimum, £15 million maximum, in the last financial year

·       a high growth trajectory (roughly 20% YOY)

·       no recent management education

·       an applicant who is the leader, primary owner or main decision maker of the business (generally the majority shareholder)
