| | | Role Model Stories: Holly's Story is free to mark TDOV We have made 'Holly's Story', a Role Model Stories video and teacher resource, free of charge to mark Trans Day of Visibility on 31 March and support in-class lessons. The unique and powerful messages in Role Model Stories allows teachers anywhere to educate about LGBT+ identities, the impact of bullying and how to embrace difference and include everyone. Holly's Story highlights her lived experience as a trans woman. Holly's Story Holly shares her story about coming out as a transgender woman and how she didn’t get the support she needed to live as her true self until later in life. She describes coming out to her parents at 14 but then not talking about it again until much later. She eventually came out to her then girlfriend who supported her to come out to others in her life. She now lives in London and is married to her wife and is living the life she dreamed she’d be able to live. Learning Objective Students will be able to explain what it means to be transgender and define gender identity, sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation and gender expression. Students will be able to reflect on what support someone may need if they wanted to come out. This resource was created for Year 9+, is subtitled in English (UK) and contains: - Discussion questions and activities
- Challenge questions and activities
- Extension ideas
- Further resources, support and guidance
- A glossary of useful terms
- Curriculum links
- 7-minute LGBT+ storytelling video
Holly's Story is available to stream with unlimited access until 5 April. We hope Holly's Story can support you to educate your students about Transgender Day of Visibility and the lived experience of the trans community. Thanks, Jac Bastian Head of Education |
