Housing Hope for Queer People in Bulawayo |
The Voice of the Voiceless (VOVO) in Bulawayo has created a safe space for members of the queer community in the city, and stability for itself as an organization through the securing of an office property. The house, which is an office for the organization, is a disability inclusive walk-in centre that offers a wide range of services and activities including wellness and psycho-social support, capacity building, art, a resource centre, documentation and media, movement building and advocacy. |
Media: The Right Hand of Equality and Freedom |
Supportive and affirming coverage of the LGBTI community in the media is a crucial ingredient in creating progressive societies that are informed, sensitive to and inclusive of queer people. Now more than ever before, LGBTI individuals are organizing themselves with new groups being established in every country in our region. The ability of these groups to engage with the media will go a long way in increasing their visibility and promote advocacy for their recognition, inclusion and participation in society. |
Yesterday's Learning, Today's Action |
Findings from “The Untold Stories of the Closet”, a documentary by Health 4 Men in partnership with the Other Foundation that formed part of the grant project Khulula in 2018, surfaced many issues in the LGBTI community in eSwatini, such as social exclusion and homophobic discrimination in the family. Health 4 Men used these findings to inform its most recent reiteration of the project, Khulula 2, which sought to address these issues and their underlying causes. |
