Inspirational Argentina

Our Inspirational Argentina Issue – our biggest ever edition launching this week – showcases the country that puts the ‘Amor’ in Latin America. We introduce some OutThere Argentinians – the new Director of the National Library of Argentina and world renowned artist Guido Ignatti, our featured men of distinction. We tell you the fascinating tales of the Argentine people that we met along the way – the artists, literary greats, gardeners, horsemen, fashion designers, entrepreneurs, farmers, activists and young, modern day immigrants – stories of resilience, passion, love and creativity...

Educate & Celebrate

A quick glance at this week's queer news...

Our take on the last seven days of LGBT+ news from across the globe and some exclusive Educate & Celebrate news.
BUT FIRST.... IT'S THE GREAT RAINBOW BAKE OFF FINAL 2017

It's time to vote...

They have been baked, iced and embellished to perfection, but now it's your turn to have your tastebuds tantalised and vote for your favourite creation!

Hundreds of schools took part in our Edu-Cake and Cel-A-Bake competition to mark anti-bullying week. Dozens of cakes were made for the occasion and more than £500 was raised in the process! The top 10 entries will battle it out over icing sugar during the LIVE final this February.

"The Educate & Celebrate initiative is innovative and visionary."

From cakes to queer! Here is our weekly news round up...

December 6th:
It’s that time of the week when we present to you the last seven days of Queer news from around the globe!
The headline that’s been getting Tweeters and Facebook users across Finland and the UK going hot at their keyboards is the news that X-Factor finalist, Saara Aalto from Finland is not only bisexual but engaged to a woman. It isn’t the fact that one of the favourites to win the singing competition identifies as LGBT+, oh no, instead it has ignited claims that X-Factor bosses kept the engagement and her sexuality quiet. While rumours of the show being a fix return week after week, messages of support have flooded the social media streams of Saara and her fiancé, and we wish them nothing but huge congratulations and luck in the final.
Speaking of singers; the Queen of queer, Lady Gaga visited the Ali Forney Center in Harlem this week to speak to homeless LGBT young people as part of its Share Kindness Campaign. During the visit, Gaga spoke out about suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) herself after being raped aged 19. The international star who revealed this for the first time publicly on Monday, said: “The kindness that has been shown to me by doctors as well as my family, and my friends, it really has saved my life.” The visit has helped spread the message about the #HarlemNoHate campaign dedicated to LGBT young people in America and across the globe.
From Finland to America, to Hong Kong – the rainbow really is flying here, there and everywhere! Two of China’s iconic statues have been given a rainbow makeover, sparking huge debate over whether corporations in the country should get involved in LGBT rights. The metallic lion statues that sit outside of the HSBC building have been decorated as part of the banks ‘Celebrate Pride, Celebrate Unity’ campaign in support of LGBT rights. Despite only being brightened up for a few weeks, a petition against the bank’s involvement has been signed by more than 1,800 people and groups have claimed they are unhappy as the move forces every shareholder to “endorse the homosexual lifestyle”. Of course not everyone is feeling prejudiced and blue about the colourful display, many people have praised the move which comes after 7,000 people marched through the streets to celebrate Pride earlier this year.

Back in the states and all anyone is talking about is Trump. It has been said that the President Elect will repeal federal protections for LGBT workers. US representative, Steve Russell said that Trump has offered “very good assurances” that he will repeal Obama’s executive orders for non-discrimination by federal contractors. This move is thought to be a way to replace the unclear legislation introduced by Obama but campaign groups in the states have said that any organisation that wishes to terminate workers based on their LGBT identities, could be safeguarded under a faith-based exemption. Trump has not yet released a formal statement on the issue, but this comes in the same week that he appointed Ben Carson as Housing and Urban Development Secretary, despite Dr Carson’s previous claims that same-sex marriage is both a Marxist plot and comparative to bestiality.
On a more positive note, Walmart which ranked THE largest company in Fortune 500, has emerged as the latest LGBT rights leader. The supermarket chain received a perfect score of 100 from Human Right’s Campaigners’ Corporate Equality Index. They were one of 517 companies to get a perfect score, a massive increase from last year. Walmart was found to have a resource group for employees called PRIDE: Promoting Respect, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. Not too dissimilar to our very own key principles of training, policy, curriculum, environment and community.

More CPD teacher training dates added!

The practical and teacher-friendly course is designed to give you confidence, resources and strategies combined with an action plan to start delivering LGBT+Inclusivity the very next day.

After CPD in September 2016 a teacher emailed to say:

'I just wanted to share that I used what I have learned following the Training Day to lead an Assembly, watched by all Staff and all our children aged from 5 to 16, not an easy audience and I was very nervous but I followed your advice and guidance and it could not have gone better; As a result of my increased confidence in discussing this topic it has improved my ability to be clear and articulate when I am asked a question, by a child and members of Staff. So thank you I feel so empowered by what you did with us that day'
