New Year Resolutions, important changes for GPN in 2018.
Dear Members,
It was debated whether or not to make GPN free and attract some but detract others or more exclusive that may bring the same conclusion.
However over the last few years, we found that making it cheaper and going to more affordable places did not bring any more members, in fact quite the contrary.
We are a group of Gay Professionals who actually like their comfort, good wine and food, comfortable surrounding and great people.
So we are going more exclusive and start 2018 in style at the Savile Club.
The Savile Club was established in 1868 by a group of the most distinguished writers and artists of the time. Its home is a fine 18th Century house in the heart of Mayfair, whose air of elegant exclusivity reflects the uniquely creative ambiance which is preserved in the Savile Club of today.
The choice (this may change pending new menus in 2018) is
White Burgundy: Macon-Uchizy and Bordeaux: Chateau Beauregard-Ducourt.
The price will be £49.50 and includes a small fee towards the running of GPN.
GPN is a non for profit membership organisation operating since 2010. The excess from the membership fees after food, drinks and room hire pays for the website, promotion, organising, stationary including the badges, transport & banners, guests and guest speakers.
Members who have already paid for the year, there is no further charges except that we now will meet bimonthly and up to five times a year.
By hiring private rooms, we can talk and make the occasional presentation without the noise associated with cheaper venues.
As we did over the last few years, drinks will all be included, (up to a point though!).
Please keep checking this blog as this is where special offers and other events from affiliated organisations are posted on a regular basis.

Dress code (for Members and Guests)
The Club has no formal dress code, other than a rather undefined rule of not offending other members, so although for example jeans and trainers are not permitted and a jacket is required (except in very hot weather when a notice will be posted on the board), a tie is not de rigueur.
It reflects of course on the price since we pay for room hire and more expensive wines and include canapés.The choice (this may change pending new menus in 2018) is
White Burgundy: Macon-Uchizy and Bordeaux: Chateau Beauregard-Ducourt.
Canapés:
- Beef and Mustard/Horseradish Profiteroles
- Vichyssoise Demi-Tasse
- Tiger Prawns in Filo Pastry
- Warm Scrambled Egg and Smoked Salmon Vol au Vents
- Mixed Vegetable Quiches
- Goujons of Sole and Chips with Tartar Sauce.

Thank you for your support this year and Season's Greetings.
Dear Friends and supporters,
Thank you for contributing to the success of JFDE.
The Gay Professional Network met regularly this year, it included a joint reception at the London School of Economics and at various private clubs or venues.
The Network seem to have been swallowed by the Salon d'Or but as yet managed to meet a few times.
I have been rather busy filming this year, check out what I can tell you so far on http://www.imdb.com/list/ls038032236/ some of it you will see next year but in the cinemas now are quite a few films.
Because of this, I have not painted much but please do look at my latest work on http://jeanfrancoisdor.pictures
As a catering consultant, I found myself with people picking my brain a lot so I asked them to pick a time and method of payment.... well good advice saves you thousands if not millions and free advice will not lead you to much.
As an event organiser, I organised or recommended various venues for conferences and after conference, a wrap up party or two and traveled a bit around. Why don't you see this on my instagram or twitter, I simply don't as I respect the privacy of my clients and businesses.
Our PR company, Mayfair PR closed its door this year, it was a partnership and partnerships are difficult. I noticed that the website has been very quickly snapped by someone but off course, I still can help you. Check http://www.jfdor.co.uk/jfd-enterprises-jfde/public-relations.php
As Hon. Secretary of the Whitefriars Club, in 2017 we were able to pay tribute to Mary Baum in January, the speakers list that followed, thanks to our Chairman Sir Neil Thorne, OBE, TD was indeed most impressive!
Rt Hon Lord Astor of Hever DL, Lord Paddy Ashdown, Sir John Timpson, I even spoke at the AGM!, Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind KCMG QC, Rt Hon Sir Antony Brian Baldry PC DL and we concluded the year with our Christmas Party, when we were true to our motto: Learning, Friendship & Charity. We raised over £1600 for Children in Distress!
Next year, please put in your diaries the fourth Wednesday of the month from January to May and from September to November. If you are not a member and would like to hear more about it, please let me know.
The Whitefriars Club kicks start its 150th Anniversary year with Jerry Hayes, known to some as a highly respected Barrister, to others a well known MP for some years who also appeared on various TV shows, political and entertaining.
In February it celebrate in great style its Anniversary Dinner in the most magnificent rooms of the Palace of Westminster, there is still space RSVP and more details on https://www.eventbrite.com/e/whitefriars-club-150th-anniversary-at-the-palace-of-westminster-tickets-35239904503.
In March we waiting to hear from two very prominent politicians and in April, Lord Lisvane KCB DL. More about our speakers next year.
Finally in 2007 saw my 30th anniversary of living in London and Richard and I's 19th anniversary but we knew each other's for two years before that.
It remains to me to wish you and your family a wonderful end of year's festivities: Merry Christmas, Happy Bodhi Day, Happy Return of the Wandering Goddess, Happy Hanukkah, Id al-Fitr, Winter Solstice, Saturnalia and Yule and most all and to everyone I wish a very Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year 2018.
Yours ever,
Jean-François.
