My Brother Is A Mermaid - Transgender Representation in Film
Shaun Rhodes <shaun.rhodes@aeentertainment.co.uk> wrote:
Morning GPN,My name's Shaun, I'm producing a short film about a trans teenager, starring a trans actor, and believe the project may be of interest to your organisation and supporters. The story is a magical realism, focussing on the unconditional love between siblings as the elder one begins their social transition. You can find out all about the film on our website - mermaidshortfilm.com.The aim of the film is to educate, challenge prejudice, and expand understanding and empathy. We've taken great care to consult with the UK transgender community in the writing and creation of the film, we're firm believers in the matra 'nothing about us, without us'.We have a fantastically insightful, articulate and personal interview with our lead actor about trans representation in film, and would love for you to share it. Cameron (our actor) is a fantastic role model for young people (both trans and cis) and is at the beginning of what will inevitably be a hugely successful career. He Has fantastic insights into transphobia in 2018, the importance of casting trans actors in trans roles, and generally on trans representation on screen. So far we've had Mermaids UK and Arcadia Doncaster LGBT share the video as well as several other transgender organisations. Please see the interview here, and if you feel it's something your supporters could get behind, then sharing on social media would be fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_egDxMf8AUEIf you could also include a link to our crowdfunding campaign then even better!Thank you so much for your time and I really hope to hear from you soon. Keep up the great work you do.Best Wishes,Shaun

call for people to participate in a film to be screen at London Pride.
Hi,
Hope you are well, I was wondering if someone would be able to help!
I am a film student and head of welfare for the LGBT+ society at London South Bank University. I have recently been funded by the O2 GoThinkBig scheme for a documentary I pitched to them. I want to make a documentary miniseries covering a wide range of LGBTQ+ related issues; such as the gender spectrum, what it means to be non-binary, the age of consent for transitioning, coming out, how LGBTQ+ people/relationships are represented in the media, mental health and how the lack of sex and relationship education (SRE) can negatively affect LGBT+ people.
I'm looking for a few people to take part, particularly people from BAME backgrounds, people who have experience educating/talking to various communities about LGBTQ+ issues and people from different parts of the gender spectrum.
I have attached a treatment document, which explains my idea in more detail. I'd really like some advice/ help getting people from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum involved!
Ideally, I'd like the documentary series to be ready by London Pride this year on the 7th of July and for it to be suitable to play out to students at college and in Universities as well as approaching LGBTQ+ and other, bigger film festivals.
Hope to hear back from you to talk about this further!
Many Thanks,
